Furniture in Motion

Call for Proposals: Furniture in Motion

Rattapallax is launching a new line of singles. Published electronically, these pamphlet-length interventions will be made available through our website as well as through online bookstores.

Our inaugural series centers on visual culture, and it goes by the name Furniture in Motion, an image borrowed from the Chilean poet Nicanor Parra. Against the majesty of trees, Parra’s classic antipoems give us instead a world of home furnishings, tables and chairs in perpetual circulation. This is poetry as carpentry.

Similarly, the entries in this series do not seek a return to roots. Rather, they take up ideas in flight, images in flux. We are interested in essays of between 8,000 and 15,000 words on some aspect of contemporary visual culture. Potential topics are as varied as our image-saturated ecosystem itself: meditations on the work of a single artist, glosses or indexations of a visual experience, ekphrastic slideshows and collages. Unconventional forms of critique are particularly welcome.

Potential contributors should submit online, and will be requested to include a brief proposal (500 words) and bio with your submission.
